Hammond Castle Museum Open for “Petite” Weddings this Summer

Posted

For couples seeking to marry this summer, Gloucester’s Hammond Castle Museum and its new “Petite Weddings” just might fit the bill.

With social distancing in mind, the option strikes a happy medium.  Couples can have the grandeur of the historic property and surrounding grounds.  The venue promises this option can be had for less than $1,000.  That said, the experience is a scaled down one.  The Petite Weddings option “offers the opportunity to host an hour-long, intimate wedding ceremony and photoshoot of up to nine individuals, or to elope with just an officiant,” according to the announcement.  Exclusive access to the museum, ocean-front lawn and surrounding gardens are also available for the ceremony and photographs.

As a fully functioning museum with regularly scheduled hours, all event rentals begin after the museum closes to the public.  Presently the maximum number of guests permitted is within the social distancing guidelines set forth by Massachusetts which are subject to change.

Hammond Castle Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum’s architectural style is a mix of a medieval castle, French chateau, and a Gothic cathedral. It was custom built to encompass John Hays Hammond Jr.'s private residence, laboratory, and museum quality collection of architectural elements such as the facades of medieval shops and doorways from chateaus.  Also on display is Hammond’s extensive list of patents, his work with radio control and his work on echo guided torpedoes for the military.

The museum is open typically seasonally, but is currently closed in compliance with the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.  Upon opening, the museum will welcome guests daily through October. It is not handicap accessible. Check the website for up to date requirements and restrictions. The museum offers self-guided and guided tours and numerous educational and cultural events throughout the year.
