Flowers in February?

Jim Behnke reports in ….

“I spotted this beautiful white flower in full bloom outside my front door . . . on February 3rd! Who needs Puxutawney Phil when we have this member of the Amaryllis family as our own harbinger of spring? These early bloomers are appropriately called Snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis). They generally bloom in late February or early March, but they’re ahead of schedule due to our mild winter, thus far. Snowdrops are native to Europe and have been planted widely in our area along with the more familiar crocuses that will poke through the winter soil later in the spring.”  (February 3, 2020)
