First Annual Winter Fest A Huge Hit

Posted

A new tradition created by Manchester Parks and Recreation Department and sponsored by the Hooper Fund drew more than 60 children who attended the first annual Winter Fest.  They shook out the winter blues at Memorial School last Friday night with dance lessons from Miss Garofalo (Memorial School 3rd grade teacher), learned to play new instruments in a drum circle with Miss. Dooley (Memorial School Music teacher) and played “Winter Themed” gym games with Mr. Boria (Memorial School Gym teacher). MBTS Parks and Recreation Director Heather DePriest reported in and said there was photo booth set up and a craft table with face painting by the talented Elaina Jacobs from Big Smile Entertainment.  They all ended the night with cookie decorating. (Fun!)Several staff members from the Hornets after School Program assisted in making this event a special one. DePriest wanted to send a “big thank you” to Amy Coleman, Kelly Cook, Grace Swanciger, Sierra Miller, Chris Siems and Charlotte Ward.  The event was free to the public, so children were asked to bring a canned good or a pair of new socks for a local homeless shelter. DePriest, the event’s creator, was taken aback by the public’s generosity.  “THANKS to the Hooper Fund for their support,” she said. “This was a very special night.  I can’t wait to bring it back every winter.”
