Born Wild

Locally-born visual and performance artist Elsa Marie Keefe will be releasing the first of her large-scale mixed media series, “Born Wild,” on the land of her childhood home.  Currently based in Brooklyn, Elsa grew up in Manchester-by-the-Sea in a family that embraced nudity and freedom, which she reflects in her artwork.  Elsa spent the past several months creating her latest mixed media series blending themes from the forest, desert, and the seashore.  Her compositions are a collage of nude fine art photography captured in natural settings, blended with natural artifacts (flowers, plants, bones, and crystals), and devoid of manmade objects. “We are all born wild.  We are the earth,” she says.  “I think and create sub specie aeternitatis (from the perspective of the eternal).”  The images are printed in a large-scale format and adhered to wooden paneled canvas.  The final piece is coated in transparent resin to preserve the objects in time and create an enduring work of art.

The art exhibited will mark the next stage of Elsa’s “Born Wild” series and will be held on Saturday, September 19, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the lawn at 8 Victoria Road, Manchester (at the corner of Ocean Street and Victoria Road near White Beach and Kettle Cove).  The first showing of this series was released at The Other Art Fair by Saatchi Art in Greenpoint, Brooklyn last November.
