I write to thank those residents who made time to attend the special town meeting on November 19. Although the warrant was short, it contained several important measures. The voters discussed them thoughtfully and efficiently, allowing us to dissolve the meeting at an early hour. Special thanks go to Town Clerk Christina St. Pierre.
At the annual town meeting in April, residents approved the purchase of electronic voting equipment. Previously, we had leased the hardware and paid for the lessor’s staff to attend our meetings. Christina managed the procurement of handsets and related hardware and also operated the system during the fall town meeting. The voting process was seamless, and — assuming we continue to hold both fall and spring meetings — the payback on the town’s investment will be less than three years.
