Christmas Tree Bonfire Thank You

Posted

To the Editor:

The members of the 375th Anniversary Celebration Committee hope the over 350 people who attended the Christmas Tree Bonfire on Saturday night enjoyed themselves.  It was a cool night until the bonfire was ignited and then many moved closer to the fire when the fire department allowed them to and felt the heat from the burning trees.

As with so many events, this event could not have occurred without the work of many people.  Many people working together made the first event of the 375th Celebration a success.  We would like to thank the following people and groups for their contributions to the bonfire event:

Black Earth Compost for picking up the trees and delivering them to the burn site;

The Manchester Athletic Club and Kate Baginski for being such greats hosts for the event;

The members of the Manchester Masonic Lodge for providing the cocoa for all in attendance;

The Manchester Fire Department, the Essex Fire Department and Chief Al Beardsley for keeping all safe during the bonfire;

The Manchester Police Department and Chief Todd Fitzgerald for handing the traffic and parking plans;

Utopia Farms, L.A.D. Co. Inc. and Scouts - BSA Troop # 3 Boys and Girls for their financial sponsorship of the event;

The Scouts and Leaders of Scouts BSA Troop # 3 for being on-site to handle tasks and for checking the groups for litter; and

Mother Nature for letting us have the weather for the bonfire.  The third time was the charm!!

We hope the residents will plan to attend many of the 375th Anniversary events in this coming year.  The next event is Sunday, February 9th.  Family Fun Day at the Legion Hall will run from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Hope to see you there.

Thanks for a Great Kick-off to the Celebration,

Sue Thorne and Tom Kehoe -
