Thomas M. LaFreniere “Mike”, 77 of Gloucester, MA originally from Medford, MA died on Sunday June 14th after a long battle with cancer. 

Mike was a graduate of Story High School in Manchester, MA, attended Newman Prep and then went on to Maine Maritime Academy. Mike completed the U.S. Navy Basic submarine school and entered the U.S. Navy in 1965. Mike was assigned to the submarine the U.S.S. Tusk where he served as a navigator and quartermaster. After his time with the Navy, he sailed private yachts from Maine to the Bahamas and everywhere in between. He was an avid boater and was at home at the helm. Mike ultimately retired from the New England Telephone Company after 30 years of service. He worked part-time as the Assistant Salem Harbor Master, Dock master and enjoyed 22 years of living on their boat the NICOLLE in Salem after retirement. 

Recently Mike was happy bird watching in his backyard, feeding a family of chipmunks peanuts and following New England sports teams. 

Mike is survived by his partner of 36 years Alice Pratt, his 3 daughters: Michelle LaFreniere of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Christine LaFreniere of Beverly, MA and Nicolle and her husband Mark Quinn also of Beverly, MA. Mike loved his three granddaughters dearly: Hayley Garner, Avery Quinn and Norah Quinn.  Mike was predeceased by his mother Isabel LaFreniere, father Victor LaFreniere and brother Edmond LaFreniere. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
