Russell E. Hodgkins

Russell E. Hodgkins, 83 of Raymond NH and formerly a longtime resident of Essex, passed Tuesday, January 19, at Exeter hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Essex on March 2, 1937 Russell was raised in Essex, attended Essex Public schools and graduated from Gloucester High School.  Russell was well known.  Throughout the years he had been employed as a general contractor and oil delivery and burner service technician for Bursaw Oil, Fox Hill Oil and the former David Comeau Heating of Ipswich.  

During the 1980's he was the owner operator of the Rigger Lounge of Gloucester.  Russell will be remembered as a kind and caring gentleman who never met a stranger.                                                                                             He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Essex.                                                                  Russell is survived by his longtime companion, Victoria St Louis of Exeter NH and her children Denise, Charles and Jacqueline; a son Russell Hodgkins, Jr of Roanoke VA; two daughters, Deborah Lawrence and her husband Mark of Roanoke, VA, Catherine Needham and her husband Anthony of Tampa, FL and  five grandchildren, Alissa Julien, Lacy Needham, Lexi Lawrence, Carter Lawrence and Casey Lawrence.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Arlene Pizzo of Essex and grandsons Justin and Joel.                                                                                                                                       Graveside Services will be held at Spring Street Cemetery, Essex at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
