Judith Bidwell
Judith Ann Bidwell passed away peacefully at Seacoast Nursing and Rehab Center in Gloucester, Massachusetts on November 30, 2022. She was born to Edmund W. and Alice C. Cotter (Collins) January 8, 1947, in Rockville Center, Long Island NY. Judy was married to Ted Bidwell for 53 years. She leaves Ted, her son Jason C. Bidwell, his wife Tara Leigh Testa and the love of her life, granddaughter Winnifred Blue Bidwell. She was also sister to Christine Cotter and godmother to Delilah Rose Michalowski. Her heart was filled with love for so many who shared this journey with her. All those many people know who they are and are saluted by the family.
Judy had a rewarding career in fashion after graduating from FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in Manhattan. Her real passion and foundation came from a deep love of people. She brought great joy and laughter to all she encountered on her journey. She was a devoted friend and ready to celebrate any important event with her friends.
For Judy, travel was a great adventure, and this led to a most enjoyable second career as a flight attendant with American Airlines. Wonderful friendships were forged during those years. Judy would brighten any room she entered with her big smile and outgoing demeanor, which often led to fast new friendships.
She also was a strong supporter of Gloucester, the community which she came to love intensely. She enjoyed a number of volunteer roles, especially with the Generous Gardener group where she could be found regularly dispensing her love and caring for all the plants on Gloucester’s Stacey Boulevard… especially the dahlias.
She spent many years at the Open Door Food Pantry, delivering kindness and a listening ear with the food. Recently the City of Gloucester awarded her a Certificate of Appreciation for “volunteerism, passion, and artistic talents.”
Those who survive Judy will continue to contribute to the world her message of love, compassion, and grace. The family would like to salute the caregivers who aided Judy during her health struggles of the past year, especially those at Seacoast. She carried on during this period with tremendous courage, humor, and friendship for all she encountered along the way. She could often be heard saying her most commonly used phrases during this time; “it’s all good,” “We are so blessed,” and, “It really is a wonderful world.”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Judy’s birthday, January 8 at Bass Rocks Golf Club from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. We would ask that in lieu of flowers or food, contributions be made to Generous Gardeners (www.generousgardeners.org) and/or Open Door Food Pantry (www.foodpantry.org)
