Janet M. (Shawver) Filias, 88, wife of the late Nick Filias, passed away peacefully, on April 5.  She was born September 13, 1931, in Berkley, Virginia, the daughter of the late Charles Emerson and Juanita (Jereme) Shawver.  Janet graduated from Story High School in 1949, and attended Burdett College of Business, where she became a Legal Secretary.  In 1953, she married her loving husband of 39 years, Nick Filias.  Together they enjoyed traveling with friends and family, and hosting numerous gatherings in their home, where everyone was always welcome with open arms. Jan found great joy in life.  She had so much pride for her children and grandchildren, who were her number one priority.  She loved cooking, baking, shopping, going out to eat, playing Bridge, attending the Northshore Music Theatre, or just visiting with good friends and family. Jan will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, sincere kindness and unwavering generosity.  She was loved by so many for her soft-spoken manner, easy-going personality, and ability to laugh in the face of life’s challenges.  She had a passion for Golden Retrievers and supported many animal charities.  She was also very generous with children’s charities, a tradition of giving that she started with her husband, Nick.

She is survived by her sons Chuck and his wife Nancy (Ina) Filias, and Alex Filias and his wife Paula (Polo) Filias, all from Manchester-by-the-Sea.  Grandson, Nick Filias, and granddaughters Dana and Nikki Filias, her dear cousin Kennie Watson and her husband Harry of Virginia Beach, cousin Janet Coulson, Eric Coulson and Cory Coulson, also from Virginia, and many wonderful nieces and nephews, and loving caregivers who meant the world to her.

Due to current circumstances, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.  Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Beverly Hospital’s, Healthcare Hero’s Emergency Response Fund, which provides immediate resources to nurses, physicians, and hospitals to fight the pandemic.
