Women’s Club To Be Honored For Founding Role In VNA

At its February meeting on Tuesday, the Manchester Woman’s Club got a treat when Katherine Keith of VNACare shared that the club will be honored for its 1910 founding of Manchester Visiting Nurse Service at the April 30 VNA Care Spring Benefit at the Essex County Club.  The club will also be feted for its sustained commitment/support of VNA patient services for 110 years and its dedication to community service.

The Cricket will run a feature on the Women’s Club’s unique, formative – and very interesting – role in founding this region’s VNA that will coincide with the award and will include vintage photographs and details of Manchester’s early “traveling nurses”.  Christine Gauthier-Kelly has been coordinating with the Manchester Historical Museum to assemble a definitive, cohesive record in time for the benefit.

Keith also gave members of the Women’s Club a sneak preview of a recently discovered Emil Gruppe painting celebrating the VNA that it has loaned for viewing to the Cape Ann Museum.  At the close of the meeting, Gauthier-Kelly and Manchester Women’s Club President Dorothy “Dot” Sieradzki assembled those in the audience who worked as nurses for a group photo.
