Swim Team’s Continued Surge

ME Hornets Girls Swim had a great performance at the Cape Ann League (CAL) meet in early February, which brought them to the sectionals competition at MIT in Cambridge on Saturday, February 8.  The girls placed third overall at the CAL meet, with sophomore Shea Furse and senior captain Elizabeth Athanas winning both of their events.  Furse broke the CAL record for her performance in the 500-yard freestyle.  Senior Maddie Carvalho and sophomore Emma Ketchum also placed with their impressive performances.  Seven girls competed at the sectionals meet, and the team placed 7th overall.  Seniors Maddie Carvalho and Elizabeth Athanas and sophomore Shea Furse each qualified in their individual events to go to the Massachusetts state competition this Saturday, February 15 at Boston University.

Both boys and girls placed 3rd at CALs last weekend at St. John’s Prep.  Lots of great swims, including: 200 medley relay for girls, 1st place Shea Furse, Elizabeth Athanas, Maddie Carvalho and Emma Ketchum. 200 free, 1st place, Shea Furse. 200 IM 1st place, Elizabeth Athanas.

Second place 100 butterfly, Maddie Carvalho. 4 x 100 free relay of Maddie Carvalho, Emma Ketchum, Elizabeth Athanas and Shea Furse, 1st place. Notable swims by Carson Komishane making sectionals in 500 free, Emma Ketchum making sectionals in 100 fly. Top ten finishes for Olivia Gado and Emma Ketchum as well.  Congratulations to all.
