Pot Roast and Club Business

The Manchester Club held its November meeting at the American Legion Hall, and reports say the meeting drew a crowd of members and guests.

All those attending were treated to a delicious Portuguese Pot Roast dinner, thanks to Ken Davis' sister and brother for the preparation of the 24-hour marinade main course.

There was a substitute crew in the kitchen that pitched in, which included Allan Kirker, Todd and Brett Crane, Jimmy Doucette, Taylor Scott, Mark McCoy, Jay Bishop, Doc Herrick and Stan Koch.  Appetizers of crackers and cheese were enjoyed before the wonderful meal of the pot roast, mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, sweet bread and for dessert, cream puffs with chocolate topping.

After the meal, Vice President Steven Stasiak called the meeting to order.  All saluted the flag and Secretary McCoy's minutes were read as well as Treasurer Taylor Scott's.  Both were accepted as presented.  Stasiak then presented 25-year members with a desk paper weight featuring the Manchester Club seal. These went to clubbers Gary Needham and Jay Silbulkin.  He then presented a new club member, Harold "Bucky" Rogers, a Manchester Club lapel pin.

With no further business, Stasiak introduced the speaker for the evening, club member and co-chairman of the Manchester 375th Anniversary Committee, Tom Kehoe.  Tom gave a brief talk on the upcoming events to be held in 2020 for the 375th birthday of the town.  The activities are for the young and old, starting with the Christmas tree bonfire in January to be held behind the Manchester Athletic Club on upper School Street.

Among the highlight events next year will be a gala event at the Essex County Club with cocktails and a great auction. The town's birthday party and concert to be held at Masconomo Park and a family day with youth activities were just a few of the planned events that Kehoe mentioned.  Each month of 2020 will have a special celebration for all to enjoy.  Check the MBTS website for more information on all of the events. Kehoe also mentioned that 2020 commemorative calendars designed and published by the 375th Committee are for sale at retailers around town as well as at the Manchester Historical Museum. The door prize of a Cala’s gift certificate was won by Carl Doane.
