Massachusetts State Minority Leader and Senator Bruce Tarr today gave a speech and read a proclamation commemorating Manchester's 375th Anniversary on the senate floor of the State House.
The Manchester 375th Committee had planned a community-wide celebration "birthday party" that was thwarted by the COVID pandemic, but Tarr's office, with help and coordination by committee member Joe Sabella.
The reading began just after 11 a.m., and took about ten minutes during which Tarr spoke of the unique and special history of Manchester, including its history as a center of furniture making, its evolution into a destination of the wealthy industrialists and national politicians and leaders in the 19th Century, its beautiful shoreline and its draw as a beautiful and welcoming community on Cape Ann today.  Tarr said he planned to make his remarks in person.  Instead, he said, he would ask his colleagues in the senate to join and recognize the town's milestone in front of a virtual audience who tuned into the livestream from computers and phones wherever they were.

Thanks to the Manchester by the Sea 375th Committee and especially to Joe Sabella, a member of the committee who spearheaded the commemoration with Senator Tarr's office.
