14 new members were installed at January’s Manchester Club’s meeting.
The Manchester Club kicked off its 118th year last Thursday night at the Legion Hall. Todd Crane and his kitchen crew served a delicious meal of a garden salad, Virgilio’s rolls, Baked Stuff Shrimp with rice and cookies and ice cream for dessert. At the conclusion of dinner, outgoing club president Eric Aldrich led the Pledge of Allegiance and held a moment of silence remembering the passings of 30-year member Bill Park and 10-year member David Doane.
A motion was made to skip the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s monthly report so it was on to the annual business portion of the meeting as Manchester Club enters its 118th year as an organization. As is club tradition, outgoing president Aldrich announced the Club president for 2023, Bruce MacDonald Jr, and presented the Manchester Club’s gavel to him. President MacDonald then presented now Chairman of the Board Aldrich with the customary Thank You clock plaque and recognized their kinship as Troop 3 Eagle Scouts. President MacDonald then went on to announce the slate of E-Board officers for 2023 welcoming new members Tom Lance and Dave Marletta and thanking outgoing E-board members Bruce Heisey, Bob Ryan and Tim Brown for their hard work. Next, President MacDonald welcomed 14 new members. After the announcements, Club Secretary Craige McCoy gave his annual report recapping each of the monthly meetings and various events and new Club Treasurer David Slade provided an update on year-end finances as he takes over managing the Club’s books after the untimely passing of long time Club Treasurer Bill Scott. Slade reports that the Club awarded 11 high school scholarships in 2022 for $1500 per graduate and holiday donations were made to the town’s Houses of Worship and to area food pantries and that the club is in good financial standing. The meeting adjourned at the conclusion of business. The next dinner/meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16 at the Legion Hall – steak tips are on the menu and Matt Plum will be guest speaker. Members can expect to receive an email invitation around the first of the month.
