Eagle’s Nest, Good Bye

Posted

Of the many extraordinary and wonderful things about Essex Elementary School, the Eagles Nest Playground is surely one of them.  A wooden labyrinth of places to hide and explore.  At once it appears to be a ship, a castle, or a forest.  A world of swings and bars and slides;  all under the watchful gaze of The Eagle.  Sadly this cherished structure must be decommissioned as its days of being a hearty and safe structure have ended.  On January 31, students and community members gathered at Essex Elementary to say farewell to the beloved playground.

The ceremony was full of beautiful speeches and sentiments from students who have grown up playing here.  And while the passing of Eagles Nest is indeed sad, surely new adventures await in its place. (Kris McGinn Straub)
