Dee Burroughs, You’re The Best

Posted

The 143rd Annual Manchester Elder Brethren Summer Picnic is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12 at Tuck’s Point; and as the tradition goes, the oldest male registered to attend will be presented with the Boston Post Cane.  Last year, Gordon MacDougal, age 95, received that honor.  The tradition emphasizes the “elder” idea in “Elder Brethren,” but the fact is eligibility for the important town group is actually 49 years old.  Also, the fraternity’s tradition notwithstanding, it is Dee Burroughs at 100 who is Manchester’s eldest resident.  The cane may be rightly with the Brethren, but our hats are all off to Mrs. Burroughs.
