Thursday, May 14, beginning at 8:30 PM at O’Maley Middle School
The Cape Ann Museum has rescheduled the last day of its CAM Contemporary exhibition, “In Gratitude,” a projection of an illuminated multilingual message, “Thank You Frontline Heroes,” to Thursday, May 14 due to rain last week.
In addition to the new date, the Museum is adding a pop-up rally and procession, beginning at 8:30 p.m. at O’Maley Innovation Middle School, 32 Cherry St. in Gloucester. Visitors in cars have the opportunity to join members of the Gloucester community in the school parking lot and form a procession of vehicles which will depart at 8:45pm from the O’Maley Innovation Middle School Parking lot, down Washington Street and around the Grant Circle Rotary to see the illuminated projection on the White-Ellery Barn and back toward the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
During the procession, cars will pass by the “In Gratitude” installation at Cape Ann Museum Green twice. Each time, passengers are encouraged to show their support with cheers and words of thanks for frontline workers. The cheers will be recorded and ingrained as part of the permanent art created from this temporary exhibition. The installation will be illuminated from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
The Museum’s presentation of “In Gratitude,” is part of the Museum’s desire to “…send a message of solidarity, gratitude and hope to our community,” said Museum Director Oliver Barker.
“In Gratitude” lights up the side of the White-Ellery Barn at the Cape Ann Museum Green, 245 Washington Street in Gloucester. It was created by Stephanie Terelak Benenson, a North Shore artist and founder of the nonprofit, Harbor Voices Public Art. The projection started on Wed. May 6 and ran through Friday, May 8 but it was postponed due to rain on that final evening. The message itself is in several languages – Portugese, Spanish, Italian, and English – and is dedicated to the COVID-19 crisis’s frontline responders such as nurses, doctors, hospital staff and administrators, delivery, teachers, grocery personnel, and the many non-profits supporting our community at this time.
This projection is also sponsored by LuminArtz Communications Ink., as part of the “Light Up the Night” series that is bringing rays of light into the community during the pandemic.
