Cape Ann Animal Aid received the most votes in BankGloucester’s 12th annual Banking for the Community program, earning them a $5,000 check for their wonderful community work. The shelter also received a bonus check for $1,000 based on special votes cast at the event.
BankGloucester has opened voting from September 1 to September 30 for its 13th annual “Banking for the Community” program. This year, the bank will award $25,000 to 21 community organizations and non-profits and voters determine how the funds are allocated. Last year, nearly 9,000 people participated in the voting process.
The organization with the most votes will receive $5,000; second most votes will receive $4,000; third most votes will receive $3,000; fourth and fifth most votes will receive $2,000 each; and sixth and seventh will receive $1,000 each. Fourteen other participating organizations will receive $500 each.
Voting will take place through BankGloucester’s website; and ballots will also be available for completion at the Bank’s Gloucester, Essex, and Ipswich branches for those without access to a computer. Votes can be cast for up to three organizations per ballot. One vote is allowed per person.

The program has awarded over $200,000 to dozens of non-profit and community organizations.
Local organizations that have benefited from this program include ActionInc., BackyardGrowers, Cape Ann Animal Aid, Care Dimensions, The Educational Foundation for Rockport, Essex Shipbuilding Museum, Friends of Manchester Council on Aging, Generous Gardens, Gloucester Education Foundation, Ipswich Animal Shelter, Ipswich Caring, Three Sisters Garden Project, Ipswich Dinner Bell, Open Door (the), Rose Baker Senior Center, Essex Senior Center / Council on Aging, Schooner Adventure, Seaside Sustainability, Senior Care and Wellspring.
