A Cautious, Happy Return To School, In Part

Posted

Nearly two months ago, the Manchester Essex Regional School District took a cautious, across-the-board step to return students to a remote-only school year.  It was not an easy decision for the district, and student, families, teachers and administrators have made the best of a very challenging situation.  That said, it was elementary school families that bore the brunt of that challenge, with parents often having to do double duty—overseeing their children while trying to get their own work done.  Well, the ME School Committee green lit a cautious, staged return for elementary school kids at Manchester Memorial and Essex Elementary Schools.  This week it was Kindergarten through second grade that returned for a hybrid school week that toggles between in-school and remote learning, grouped responsibly.  Next week the school district will cautiously expand the hybrid program to Grades 3, 4 and 5.  How are high schoolers doing with their remote-only program?  Madeline Lai, co-editor of the ME High School newspaper, The Independent, got some students to weigh in.  Read it HERE.
