375th Celebration Logo Unveiled to Board of Selectmen

Manchester-Essex Regional High School student Isabel Lundstrom is on summer break, looking to return to school in the fall as a sophomore. But this Monday, she presented to the Manchester Board of Selectman (BOS) a winning design for a project she completed last spring as a freshman.

Ms. Lundstrom attended the meeting with her parents, who had just learned that her logo design was selected to be the official 375th Anniversary logo for the town’s milestone celebration next year. Early in 2019, when the Manchester’s 375th Celebration Committee set out to design a logo for the anniversary, they partnered with a design class taught by art teacher Caroline Epp.  At the meeting, Lundstrom shared the process she and her classmates underwent, which involved researching the town’s history and creatively incorporating it in their sketches. Ultimately, three options for logos were presented to the members of the committee (including Tom Kehoe, Sue Thorne and six others). The presentation also served as the class final exam in June.

The committee selected her design, a simple and modern take on the seaside mark of Manchester. The colors mimic Manchester resident Ed Halstad’s beautiful 350th Anniversary logo from 25 years ago, which gives it a sense of continuity.

At Monday’s meeting, the Board unanimously adopted the logo design as the official mark of next year’s celebration.  And there was just one request — from Chairman Eli Boling — that Isabel stand in front of the Board’s table, facing the 1623 Studios camera, so the moment could be recorded in history.
