Together, Standing Peacefully to Protest Racial Violence

Posted

More than 300 young people from all over the North Shore gathered at the Grant Circle Rotary in Gloucester Monday to peacefully protest the death of George Floyd and to raise awareness about racial violence.  Organized by the Youth Peace Movement of Gloucester, the event drew a full spectrum of people, including leaders like Senator Bruce Tarr, Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Gloucester Police Chief Ed Conley (until last year Manchester’s chief of police) and, together with everyone, took a knee and sat in silence for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time Derek Chauvin pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck.

"There is no place in this profession for the tactics used in Minneapolis,” said Manchester Police Chief Todd Fitzgerald on Tuesday.  “We want our community to know that we will always stand in solidarity with you."
