90 Years Ago – 1930 

A lively hearing was held on State control of the main highway.  Several summer residents took active part in the discussion.  

The Story High football squad attended a get-together meeting and enjoyed a delicious supper served by the ladies of the PTA. 

75 Years Ago – 1945 

Story’s six-man football team opened their season with a decisive victory of St. Mary’s High School, Claremont, NH, winning the game by a score of 36 – 14. 

The annual supper of the Manchester Historical Society was held in the chapel with over 70 members and friends sitting down to a delicious lobster salad supper.  

60 Years Ago – 1960 

Mrs. Mary Saco was elected president of the American Legion Auxiliary at their annual meeting. 

Robert C. Ball of School St. was installed as Grand Knight of the Masconomo Council, Knights of Columbus at impressive ceremonies. 

45 Years Ago – 1975 

John P. Samborski, a 1963 graduate of Manchester Jr.- Sr. High School, has been promoted to Vice President at New Jersey National Bank.  

Sgt. James J. Mulvey, Jr. of the Manchester Police Department has completed the three week Command Training Institute for Law Enforcement Officers Program held at Babson College. 

30 Years Ago – 1990 

Severe budget cuts in the Police and Fire Departments will be required if the impending Public Safety Override vote in October fails.  

Forty-two volunteers picked up and tallied approximately 470 pounds of debris, mostly plastic, along Manchester’s beaches during Coastalsweep Week. 

15 Years Ago – 2005 

Members of the Manchester Garden Club will participate in an Autumn Art in Bloom workshop led by floral designer Dana Markos, on Tuesday, October 11th. 

Boy Scout Troop 3 raised $4,000 for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.  On Saturday, October 1, Scouts and adults, working in shifts, spent several hours sorting through mountains of recyclables which were dropped off by town residents.
