90 Years Ago – 1930 

The Manchester Women’s Republican Club held their first political meeting of the fall campaign this week at the home of Mrs. Charles Dodge. 

The members of the Manchester Woman’s Club enjoyed an interesting talk by Clara Winthrop of her experience on a trip to Italy. 

75 Years Ago – 1945 

Roland Brooks, otherwise known as “Pokey”, who fishes while Manchester sleeps, had the pleasure of seeing the “Fireball Meteor” at approximately 3:10 a.m. on Sunday morning. 

60 Years Ago – 1960 

Richard B. Wigglesworth, United States Ambassador to Canada, and long-time summer resident, was buried Wednesday evening in Arlington National Cemetery. 

Story High School was notified that it had again placed first in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association yearbook contest.  This is the third consecutive year that the Story Yearbook has won a first place rating. 

45 Years Ago – 1975 

A six day surveillance by Federal drug agents, highlighted by the use of planes and relay teams in automobiles to tail suspects half-way across the country ended early last Friday with the arrest of two men in Manchester in connection with an alleged international marijuana operation.  Sgt. James Mulvey and Patrolman Alan Gilson assisted in the investigation. 

30 Years Ago – 1990 

Selectman Richard Delaney has notified the town that due to job demands and other commitments he will be resigning from the Board of Selectman, a position he has held for the past four years. 

The talented Lady Hornets took over sole possession of first place in the Cape Ann League Field Hockey Division II race for the title. 

15 Years Ago – 2005 

It’s everywhere, Identity Theft, the nations fastest growing crime.  Estimated cost to Americans this year will exceed 90 Billion dollars according to information received by the Manchester Police Department. 

Ms. Gandolfi, the Diversity Alliance advisor, is pleased to announced the completion of the fundraiser “Teens helping Teens…Rebuilding a school in Biloxi” conducted by MERHS’s Diversity Alliance.  It was successful in raising $1,000.00.
