90 Years Ago – 1930 

Edward Henneberry has been accepted as a pupil of the eminent piano master, Mr. Charles Dennee. 

Frank L. Floyd and Arthur Finnegrin sailed this week for a vacation trip to Puerto Rico and San Domingo, via the Puerto-Rico line. 

75 Years Ago – 1945 

The regular meeting of the Manchester Historical Society proved to be for those present, one of the most enjoyable of the season, it being “Old Pictures Night.”  Over fifty pictures were shown, scenes of Manchester, old photographs of many long since gone, as well as many of those now living. 

Chief of Police Connors reports that he has had handed to him several 45-caliber shells that have been picked up on the street by children.  It is most dangerous for children to have these in their possession, and the Chief would appreciate it if the owner would be more careful and not drop these shells around where children may pick them up and play with them.  

60 Years Ago – 1960 

For the first time in a decade the Annual Town Meeting was concluded in one evening without lengthy and hot debate. 

Over sixty members of the Manchester Harbor Boat Club braved the blizzard of Thursday evening of last week, to be present at the annual Fish Chowder supper, many coming from distances of 25-30 miles. 

40 Years Ago – 1975 

Charles Brown of Tappan Street and Zimri Levine of Boardman Avenue were named the first place winners in the Bicentennial Committees seal competition and each received $25 savings bonds.  

Members of the Manchester Lodge AF & AM are helping the Easter Bunny fill 2500 brightly colored Easter eggs with candy for the Easter egg hunt at Essex Country Club. 

30 Years Ago – 1990 

Albert A. “Al” Lazisky who in the 1950’s and 1960’s built the Surf Restaurant into one of the finest restaurants on the North Shore passed away after a long illness.  

The Council on Aging is sponsoring a unique course titled Exploring the Art of Aging Gracefully and is jointly presented by Pastor David Forsythe of the First Baptist Church and Outreach Coordinator Claire Phillips.  

15 Years Ago – 2005 

The Board of Selectman has agreed to establish a Review Committee to explore viable options to the Downtown Improvements Project’s current plan relative to the issue of parking.  Dawn Grohs and Jack Shea from the Board of Selectman, Patti Cohen from the Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Ben Rossi from the Downtown Improvements Project Committee have agreed to serve on this new committee. 

The Manchester Committee Center is pleased to offer Introductory Dance Classes.  The classes will be held on Thursdays beginning April 7th thru May 12th from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center.
