90 Years Ago – 1930

The annual meeting of the Parent-Teacher association of which an exhibit of the work of the schools is made a part, was held at Price School Wednesday evening and brought out the largest attendance of the year.

Bell’s Beach Street store is all ready for summer with an up-to-date stock of straw hats, shirts, bathing suits, polo shirts, sweaters, sneakers and various kinds of sport shoes.

75 Years Ago – 1945

The band concert by the Salem Legion Band under the direction of George Adams at the Masconomo Park Fourth of July will start at 8 o’clock.

Town Clerk Frank L. Floyd attended the Town Clerk’s convention yesterday at the New Ocean House in Swampscott. 

60 Years Ago – 1960

32 young men and women were graduated from Story High School and $1100.00 was awarded in scholarships. 

46 Students received diplomas at Memorial School graduation exercises.

45 Years Ago – 1975

The Manchester Lions Club announces the Children’s Activities for the Fourth of July.  This is the 15th consecutive year that Vin Terrill and crew will run the doll carriage and the races.

The Manchester Summer Playground program is off to another great start with approximately 250 girls and boys taking part in the activities during the morning sessions and more than 50 youngsters involved in the evening session.

30 Years Ago – 1990

The culmination of years of work by many dedicated people is close to realization as the modified Sweeney Park Plan has been started.  The contractor has begun cleaning, stumping and replicating displaced wetlands.  They will remove the existing “turf,” lay a new foundation of gravel and loam, install a new sprinkling system and then sod the new field.

15 Years Ago – 2005

Manchester resident, Neil Sandler, a Social Studies teacher at Chelsea High School, has been chosen by ROCA of Chelsea to receive the distinction of Outstanding Teacher.

The 2005 Selectman’s Citizenship Award was recently awarded to Manchester Essex Senior Sarah Shea.
