90 Years Ago – 1930
The 27th annual banquet of the Northshore Horticultural Society and also the 30th anniversary of its organization, was held Monday evening and as usual proved one of the outstanding social events of the winter.
At the meeting of the Board of Selectman Tuesday evening, Manuel S. Miguel was re-appointed Forest Fire Warden for the fifth consecutive year.
75 Years Ago – 1945
Guest night at the Manchester Woman’s Club was greatly marred by the terrific snowstorm of that day and as a result only about thirty members were present.
Charles Peart, C.B.M., has returned to his duties with the U.S. Navy after enjoying an 11-day leave with his wife Noreen on Bridge St.
60 Years Ago – 1960
Officers of the Manchester Athletic Association met with the Board of Selectman to enlist the aid of the Selectman in securing the use of town-owned land for Little League baseball during the coming summer.
Dr. Charles Herrick, of Union Street, President of the Mass Chapter of the American Academy of General Practice, was guest doctor on radio station WBZ on the program, “Ask the Doctor.” The subject discussed was the common cold.
45 Years Ago – 1975
Ocean Lodge 91 of Gloucester, I.O.O.F. and Magnolia Lodge 149 of Manchester have consolidated, forming one independent Lodge.
Wendy Kin of Peele House Square, long active in Democratic affairs, has been named confidential secretary to Lt. Gov. Thomas P. O’Neill, III
30 Years Ago – 1990
The Board of Assessors has established a tax rate for fiscal year 1990. The tax rate is $7.84 per thousand dollars of assessment.
The people of Manchester were saddened to learn of the death of one of its truly fine native sons, William J. Crane.
15 Years Ago – 2005
Controversy still continues over the use of the property on Route 127, which was formerly the site of the Oakwood Nursing Home.
