90 Years Ago – 1930 

Harry Tappan, Hollis Roberts and F. Clifford Rand were elected to the Board of Selectman at the Annual Town Meeting. 

Charles Danforth observed his 89th birthday this week.  Mr. Danforth still reports to Dodge’s Mill as his health permits, putting in short days as his work as a carver, being the last of Manchester’s long line of wood carvers. 

75 Years Ago – 1945 

There was a large gathering of members over sixty in number, present on Wednesday evening at the meeting of the Manchester Historical Society, when Mrs. Elise Cutler, Flower Stylist of Gloucester, was present as the entertainer of the evening.  

President’s Day at the Manchester Women’s Club was held last Tuesday at the Congregational Chapel, fifteen presidents with secretaries out of the 25 clubs in the Ninth District, being present. 

60 Years Ago – 1960 

The Finance Committee notified the School Committee that it did not approve any of the wage increase for teachers, other that the step-raises. 

The Parent-Teacher Association will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on February 17th.  

45 Years Ago – 1975 

Mary A. Noonan, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jeremiah Noonan, Jr., has been named Manchester High School’s 1975 Betty Crocker Family Leader of tomorrow. 

A near capacity audience braved snow and freezing rain Wednesday to hear noted furniture authority J. Sanger Attwill lecture at the Manchester Historical Society.  

30 Years Ago – 1990 

The Manchester Community Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Joan Wogan as its new Executive Director. 

Receiving the Most Considerate Awards at Memorial School assembly were:  Ana O’Beirne, Josh Silverstein, Sian Senecal and Bryan Gubbins. 

15 Years Ago – 2005 

Jolene Larsen announced that she will retire April 1, 2005.  Mrs. Larsen has served as Library Director in Manchester for seventeen years. 

Congratulations to Manchester Essex Regional High School Senior David Heath for being chosen to participate in this year’s All State Concert.
