90 Years Ago – 1930 

A special Tercentenary Celebration of the Manchester Cricket was issued this week, giving a brief sketch of Manchester’s history and photos of old landmarks and Manchester’s famous citizens. 

75 Years Ago – 1945 

A program, in observance of the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the Manchester Club was held at Tuck’s Point. 

A large gathering of members of the Manchester Yacht Club, with their families and friends, was present to witness the water sports events annually held by the Club. 

60 Years Ago – 1960 

High winds and heavy seas, the result of a storm named Brenda, broke the Singing Beach raft from its mooring last Saturday and washed it ashore in the middle of the beach. 

Plans were made for ground-breaking ceremonies for the new Junior-Senior High School. 

45 Years Ago – 1975 

The Manchester Conservation Commission was the recent recipient of a  $100 cash allotment from Essex County Ecology, Inc.  with a request that it be used to assist Manchester’s environmental programs in achieving positive ecological goals. 

Several veterans from the Chelsea Soldiers and Sailors home enjoyed their annual outing at Tuck’s  Point as the guests of the Amaral Bailey Post #113, American Legion. 

30 Years Ago – 1990 

Karen Park celebrated her 10th anniversary in business at ZAKS with a big shop wide sale.  Ms. Park began her venture in August 1980 with her then partner, Zoe Haskell at 28 Union St.  Zoe left after one year and Karen continued with the business. 

Thirteen MSA racers competed in Marblehead’s Race Week, a 101- year-old annual regatta. 

15 Years Ago – 2005 

You may have noticed the new strategy used at the beach to park cars.  We have changed to this style in order to park 22 more cars.  

The Manchester Council on Aging is pleased to offer a trip for Senior Citizens to attend the Boston Red Sox/Detroit Tigers afternoon baseball game at Fenway Park.
