90 Years Ago – 1931
Mrs. Abbey Hooper, an esteemed resident of Manchester, celebrated her 90th birthday this week.
On Monday morning at a special assembly, Officer Andrews of the Mass. State Police Department spoke to the pupils of Story High School on “Highway Safety”.
75 Years Ago – 1946
At the regular Tuesday evening meeting of the Board of Selectman, the selectman appointed Franklin G. Diggdon to fill the position of permanent man on the fire department.
It was Navy Night Thursday evening of last week as the lady bowlers splattered the timber of the local alleys, with each Navy club taking three points while the Army teams had to be content with one each.
60 Years Ago – 1961
The Annual Ladies Night, sponsored by the Seaside Fireman’s Club of the Manchester Fire Department and the Amaral-Bailey Post, No. 113, was held last Saturday evening at the Legion Hall with over 150 present for the roast beef dinner and to enjoy dancing to the music of Allie Eaten and his orchestra.
45 Years Ago – 1976
The Manchester League of Women Voters wish to make known its support of the proposed zoning by-law for the establishment of a wetlands district. The league’s land use committee studied this proposal as it was being drafted during the past year.
30 Years Ago – 1991
The Renaissance Equestrian Center, once a most attractive and popular riding academy and the life-long dream of owner Carolyn Rose became the mark of a suspicious fire. There were no animals in the vacant building that was locked.
The Manchester Club held its regular monthly meeting with Rev. David Curran, a native of the town as the guest speaker. He told the club about his life as a missionary. Larry Pszenny and staff prepared and served a super roast pork dinner.
15 Years Ago – 2006
