The School Committee announces that it has elected as Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Roy E. Keller and he has accepted that position and entered upon his duties.

75 Years Ago – 1944

Nearly 50 members and their guests were present Wednesday evening at the Historical Society for the annual picnic held on the Historical Society’s grounds, the grounds looking spic and span with its closely cut grass and newly raked path.

60 Years Ago – 1959

Seventy-eight hospitalized veterans of World Wars I and II enjoyed an all-day outing Monday at Tuck’s Point, through the thoughtfulness of the Amaral-Bailey post of the American Legion.

45 Years Ago – 1974

A comedy of errors along with five solid hits and a 2-run homer by Greg Koper sparked Essex to a 9–5 Inter-Town playoff victory over Manchester Monday night at Memorial Field in Essex before over 200 fans.

30 Years Ago – 1989

Four local families will become the first residents of the brand-new low-cost housing units which were dedicated last Friday in simple, but impressive ceremonies, held on the site of the new houses, on Loading Place Road. The state-aided project (705-1) has become a model for many other similar housing developments which are in their beginning stages.

15 Years Ago – 2004

The beautification of the Singing Beach Bathhouse by the “A” team resulted in a big win for the Town of Manchester. Under the guidance of the Manchester Community Center, a cooperative effort began to improve the outside appearance of the Bathhouse. An outstanding group of interested residents, professional and organizations joined together to donate time, materials and funds to accomplish this worthwhile project.
