90 Years Ago – 1930 

Charles Mason and his son Charles Mason, Jr., won the honor of being the first father and son team ever to win the historic Invitation Four-Ball Tournament at Essex County Club. 

The Board of Assessors have announced the next tax rate for 1930 which is to be $17.20 on each 1,000 a reduction of .50 from the previous years. 

 

75 Years Ago – 1945 

In a very informal manner, the members of the Manchester Yacht Club celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Club’s organization with a picnic supper and dance at the clubhouse. 

A monster American Legion and Victory Day parade will be hel on Saturday.  All military organizations have consented to participate. 

 

60 Years Ago – 1960 

Approximately 100 girls and boys were present at the annual Tuck’s Point Playground Picnic this week. 

Over 780 pupils are expected when Manchester schools reopen this week. 

 

45 Years Ago – 1975 

Steven P. Dickman, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Dickman is among the more than 1,300 cadets who have entered their freshman year at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. 

The summer Monster Reading Club for children at the Manchester Public Library ended for the season with 202 children receiving certificates. 

 

30 Years Ago – 1990 

The Manchester High School Class of 1965 celebrated its 25th Reunion by holding a two-day affair. 

The Playground-by-the-Sea Committee is pleased to announce the completion of the new play area at  

Masconomo Park. 

 

15 Years Ago – 2005 

The Fourth of July Parade Committee, along with the Parks and Recreation Department, will be sponsoring a Community Yard Sale from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Memorial School. 

Marion Hall is the Manchester Exhibiting Artist at the Town Hall for the months of August and September.  Her work consists primarily of seascapes and still lifes, in watercolor.
