With the pandemic threat to our older citizens and the continuing uncertainly in the future, the 143rd annual Manchester Elder Brethren picnic scheduled for Saturday September 12th at Tuck’s Point will be held but in a very different manner than in years gone by. We’ll still have chowder, the awarding of the Boston Post cane, the presentation of the Slade-Eaton Trophy, and the annual speaker – we just won’t be able to be at the Chowder House.
Instead of an in-person picnic, the Elder Brethren will be making available the usual chowder and pie for pick-up on September 12th at the Amaral-Bailey Legion Post between 11am and 1pm. We want to thank the Legion for making their facilities available to heat the chowder and to get everything ready for pickup. No need to get out of your car, follow the cones around to the rear of the Legion building to pick-up your chowder and pie. Best of all, this year’s EB143 “Grab and Go” picnic will be provided free of charge through the generosity of the Board of the Manchester Elder Brethren.
Manchester’s Elderly men aged 49 and older who would like to participate will be asked to register on-line at a site to be announced (see below) where the Elderlies will be able to choose whether fish or clam chowder (first and second helpings!) with your slice of pie. Registration by September 5th is requested so that we’ll have enough chowder to go around. If anyone shows up for chowder without registering, they will be duly chastised and sent away hungry.
If you’re not able to register online, email or call Mike Chapman with your information: email@example.com or 978-526-1570.
Registration will also enable the Elder Brethren to award the Boston Post Cane to the oldest brother who has registered. The winners of the Boston Post Cane and the Slade-Eaton Trophy for outstanding service will be announced on social media on the 12th. This year’s speaker (to be broadcast on social media) will be announced at a later date.
